WA's Drew Rasmussen named to second straight MLB All-Star Game

The MLB All-Star Game takes place Tuesday night, and while many locals will be cheering on their favorite Seattle Mariners, there's a local pitcher for the Rays who Washingtonians should be on the lookout for.

Born in Puyallup and raised in Spokane, Drew Rasmussen has put in the hard work to become a Major League Baseball player, grinding through three major elbow surgeries, solidifying his name in Oregon State Baseball history and now a two-time MLB all-star.

Who is Drew Rasmussen?

Born in Puyallup, raised in Spokane and a Mt. Spokane High School standout, Rasmussen now enters his sixth major league season. Rasmussen attended Oregon State University, where he became the first and only player in program history to throw a perfect game. He and his wife, Stevie, have two children, a son and a daughter, per MLB.

Major League Baseball career

Rasmussen’s MLB path has seen its fair share of adversity. Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2018, he made his major league debut with the club in 2020 before the Rays acquired him in a May 2021 trade, according to MLB. He has pitched for Tampa Bay ever since.

The Tampa Bay Rays right-hander missed his first year in the league after his second Tommy John surgery, then opted for an internal brace procedure in 2023 rather than risk a third. Since returning to the rotation, he’s been one of the most reliable arms in baseball — his ERA since 2021 ranks second in the majors among pitchers with at least 500 innings, trailing only Shohei Ohtani.

In just his first full season in the majors, he was named AL Pitcher of the Month for August, where he pitched a near perfect game and a career-high strikeout total – making him just the eighth pitcher since Félix Hernández's 2012 perfect game to work at least eight perfect/no-hit innings.

This season, Rasmussen earned his second straight AL Pitcher of the Month honor, leading all American League pitchers with a 0.82 ERA, a .142 opponents’ batting average and a 0.61 WHIP, according to MLB.com. That performance also secured his second consecutive All-Star selection.

Oregon State's first perfect game

As a freshman at Oregon State in 2015, Rasmussen threw the first perfect game in program history, striking out 10 batters in a 3-0 win over rival Washington State, according to OSU Athletics. The game was just the fourth perfect game in Pac-12 history and the first since Washington State’s Joe McIntosh threw one in 1973, per NCAA.com.

Rasmussen retired all 27 batters he faced, recording six flyouts and 11 groundouts along the way. He remains the only Beaver to throw a perfect game, according to Oregon State’s official roster records.

Early high school career

Rasmussen starred at Mt. Spokane High School, where he earned Greater Spokane League MVP honors as a senior in 2014, and struck out 115 batters that season, according to OSU Athletics. Academically, he was on the honor roll all four years.

Rasmussen was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 39th round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of high school but chose instead to head to Oregon State, saying at the time it was a program and campus that offered him a strong environment to succeed both athletically and academically.

Fun Fact: Despite throwing with his right hand, he is left-handed for most day-to-day tasks, including writing.

A shift in WA's housing market: prices slide as inventory floods

Washington homebuyers finally have breathing room as active listings surged to a 2026 high in June, the Northwest Multiple Listing Service reported.

According to the NWMLS June 2026 Market Snapshot, active listings climbed 16.4% year over year to 23,088, while the state's median sales price for homes and condominiums held steady at $650,000 – a 3% dip compared to June 2025.

Home prices hold steady

According to the NWMLS, the median home price in June was $650,000 in Washington. This was unchanged from May, but marked a 3% dip compared to June 2025.

Although housing remains largely unaffordable, the combination of rebounding inventory and flat prices is shifting leverage back to buyers, marking what many hope is the end of pandemic-era bidding wars.

Home inventory hits its highest point this year

The June report says active listings in June rose 16.4% year over year to 23,088 homes, up 8 % from May. That's over 1,700 more homes than before.

There were also 11,617 new listings added in June, up nearly 6% from June 2025.

Notably, the jump in active listings isn't from a surge in new sellers. According to report data, new listings fell 7.5% from May, meaning inventory mainly grew from homes that were already on the market for longer periods.

Closed, pending home sales tell a mixed story in June

Closed sales and pending sales moved in opposite directions last month.

Data shows closed sales increased 2.3% year over year, with 6,847 residential and condominium transactions completed in June.

Pending sales dipped 1.6% year over year and 6% from May.

This gap suggests fewer new deals are currently entering the pipeline, even as existing ones finish closing.

How home prices varied by county

When comparing home prices across Washington, the difference between the priciest and most affordable counties is drastic.

San Juan County posted the highest median home price in June at $1,012,500, followed by King and Snohomish counties, at $889,000 and $725,500 respectively.

Adams County had the lowest median home price at $226,000, over 4.5 times less than San Juan County,

This discrepancy holds as a good reminder that statewide figures can mask very different realities depending on where in Washington you're looking to buy.

World Cup semifinals set: Which teams are left, how to watch

The World Cup is down to four, France, Spain, England and Argentina, all standing in each other's way for the title of World Champion.

Which teams are in the World Cup semifinals?

The first matchup features France vs. Spain at Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

France enters the match unbeaten and explosive on offense, having scored 16 goals through six matches. Spain has been steadier than spectacular, leaning on late winners and a tournament-best defense that has allowed only one goal so far. With the sides ranked No. 1 and No. 3 in the world, the match sets up a highly anticipated battle between the tournament's best offense and its best defense.

The France vs. Spain match will be at noon PT.

The second match, set for Wednesday, is England vs Argentina at Atlanta Stadium in Atlanta.

Argentina enters Wednesday's match having survived three straight close finishes, including extra-time wins over Cape Verde and Switzerland, alongside a stoppage-time comeback against Egypt. England is riding midfielder Jude Bellingham's breakout run as the team looks to end a championship drought dating back to 1966. With Argentina chasing its second consecutive World Cup title and England hunting its first in 60 years, one of the nations is about to make history.

How to watch the FIFA World Cup semifinals

Outside of watching FOX on live broadcast TV, there are several options audiences can choose from to enjoy the soccer matches.

The winners of Tuesday's and Wednesday's semifinal matches will meet in the World Cup final on Sunday, July 19. That match is at New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The losing teams of both matches will play in a third-place match on July 18 at Miami Stadium.
