Stranger calms fussy baby on plane so pregnant mom can rest

A "stranger" on a Southwest Airlines flight, who recently stepped up to help a pregnant mom, is being called the "real MVP."

The man, who was a passenger on a Sept. 5 flight from Minneapolis to Atlanta, offered to help soothe a crying baby when he noticed the child's pregnant mom was traveling alone.

Andrea Byrd was also on the flight and shared the story on Facebook:

The mom, Monica Nelson, spoke with TODAY and said she was nervous while traveling alone with 20-month-old Luke. She said the stranger walked up and down the aisle several times while holding the boy.

"He just kind of swooped in," she told TODAY. "You usually don't see things like that. It was so sweet."

Nelson said the man's first name is Reid and he also has a son named Luke.

Andrea Byrd's Facebook post has been shared almost 100,000 times.
