Suspect arrested after attempted break-ins, SWAT standoff in Monroe

North Sound Metro SWAT has taken a suspect into custody after an hours-long standoff in Monroe.

According to Monroe Police Department (MPD), officers received a 911 call of a tenant trying to break into another tenants' apartment at the 700 block of Maple Street. An assault happened, and the suspect then barricaded himself in his own apartment.

"Pretty panicky and angry, frustrated with police and shortly after that, about an hour later, we received a domestic violence call from the individuals' apartment involving he and his wife," said Paul Ryan, Commander of MPD. "We were able to make sure the wife exited the apartment safely, but no probable cause was developed at that point."

The suspect will be booked into jail on charges of attempted burglary and assault.

This is a developing story, we will provide updates as they occur.
