21 minimum wage protesters arrested in Seattle after blocking intersection

SEATTLE -- Officers arrested 21 people during a protest that ended Wednesday afternoon on Capitol Hill.

Police escorted the group of protesters demanding a higher minimum wage through the streets of Seattle in a permitted march.

The group started in Occidental Park and made their way downtown before heading to Seattle University on Capitol Hill.

A small group of protesters formed a circle in the middle of the intersection at 12th Avenue and Madison. Officers asked them to disperse so cars could pass, but they refused.

According to Seattle police, the protesters told officers they planned on being arrested and would stay in the street until that happened.

All 21 people were peacefully taken into custody.
