TACOMA -- A man led three Pierce County Jail corrections officers on a wild chase after he allegedly stole one of their cars and sped off, tried to carjack another driver, and then was finally captured -- completely naked.
The bizarre incident began at about 7 a.m. when three corrections officers were warming up their cars and a man approached a jail window wanting to retrieve his vehicle, Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.
Jail officers told him to leave because he appeared to be high or drunk, Cool said. He then walked away but jumped into one of the corrections officers' vehicles, she said.
The three officers tried to stop him, but they were dragged as the man sped away and they let go, she said.
They sustained minor scraps, Cool said.
They chased the suspect onto Interstate 5, where he eventually slammed on his brakes, jumped out of the car and tried to carjack another driver.
As police approached the suspect, he jumped back in the stolen corrections officer's vehicle and fled. Police stopped him near 50th and Pacific and arrested him. They found him completely naked in the car, she said.
As the officer drove the suspect to jail, the naked, handcuffed man began trying to kick out the back window. The officer pulled over and, when the officer opened the door, the suspect jumped out and fled on foot.
But the officer was able to tackle him and book him into jail on several charges, including robbery attempted robbery, assault and escape.
