Ruston police looking for woman suspected of thefts
RUSTON, Wash. -- A Pierce County woman is fighting to get her life back after thieves stole her credit cards out of her car.
Ruston police are trying to identify a female suspect captured on surveillance cameras using Samantha Logar's stolen credit cards.
"It's really disturbing to know that within a half hour of her breaking my window, she's got my bag, my ID, my credit cards and she's attempting to use them," Logar said Tuesday.
Police said Logar's bag with her credit cards were stolen from her car while she shopped inside a Fred Meyer store in Tacoma on June 6.
"I had been in there only 30 minutes and I got a text on my cellphone asking me if I was charging at a nearby Walgreen's," she said.
Logar replied "deny" to the fraud prevention text message from her bank, and she thought it was just a mistake until...
"Low and behold, went out to the car and, sure enough, the window was broken and (I) realized that my bag had been stolen."
She said two backpacks were missing from her backseat. And inside them ... a crook's dream.
"Credit cards. I had a loan application in the bag so it had Social Security number, how much money I make where I work, where I live, it had an old picture, ID, passport."
Ruston Police Chief Victor Celis said the only way to protect yourself is never, ever leave anything of value in your car -- not even your trunk is safe.
"My credit's being hit with inquiries daily, credit cards have been tried to be opened in my name, my tax filing was compromised," Logar said.
Logar said she learned a painful but valuable lesson.
"I find myself carrying everything with me now and not being vulnerable," said Logar.
