Deputies responding to call that four people were shot in Belfair

BELFAIR – Mason County sheriff’s deputies were responding to a call Friday morning from a man who claimed he had shot four people and had a gun to his own head.

Deputies had not confirmed that anybody was shot, but a SWAT team with negotiators was sent to the scene.

Authorities said a young female had been found near the scene and was transported to a nearby hospital.  It was unclear whether she was connected to the developing incident and the extent of any injuries were unknown.

Deputies tweeted that the scene was not secure, and asked media not to fly helicopters in the area because a Washington State Patrol aircraft was going to join the effort.

Deputies said there were unconfirmed reports that one person had escaped. They said they didn't know the ages of any of the possible victims, or how they were related to the possible shooter.
