LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- A 26-year old woman who led police on a high-speed chase for more than 40 miles on I-5 Tuesday has been involuntarily committed to Swedish Hospital for what state troopers describe as emotional distress and psychological dysfunction.
That chase reached a top speed of 110 mph.
A Q13 FOX News crew was with trooper Mark Francis when he joined the pursuit in the Everett area.
The State Patrol said the driver of the car, Jennifer Denton, was initially stopped by troopers for going 90 mph along I-5 in Skagit County.
"The trooper takes her information, goes back to his car, and that’s when she takes off,” said Francis.
Troopers put down spike mats three times before the tires of the suspect’s car finally blew. No one was hurt.
Denton, wearing pajamas, told troopers she was having some kind of medical issue. She faces charges of reckless driving and driving to endanger.
“Unfortunately, people like to run from us,” said Francis. “We try to do this as safely as possible, and if at any time we felt the public was at risk, that’s when we terminate the chase.”
