DuPont mayor cancels annual Seahawks rally in response to players planned ‘demonstration of unity’

DUPONT, Wash. -- The mayor of DuPont is taking a stand after learning of a possible demonstration by some Seahawks players at Sunday's season opener.

Mayor Mike Courts wrote on Facebook that he and city staff have decided to cancel the 3rd annual Seahawks rally scheduled for Sept. 10. Other activities, including the grand opening of the dog park in Powder Works Park, will go on as planned.

Wide receiver Doug Baldwin tweeted Thursday that the team “will honor the country and flag” in a “demonstration of unity” prior to Sunday’s season opener against Miami. When approached in the locker room by reporters, Baldwin declined to elaborate further saying, “you’ll see on Sunday.”
