SEATTLE (AP) — A Bernie Sanders supporter was arrested while protesting Congressman Jim McDermott's decision to support Hillary Clinton instead of Sanders with his superdelegate vote.
The woman arrested Thursday was one of about a dozen people who protested at McDermott's Seattle office to demand a meeting.
The Seattle Times reports (http://goo.gl/CMQTVt ) an organizer of the protest, Wesley Irwin, said protesters are angry at Washington superdelegates pledging for Clinton even though Sanders won big in the state's Democratic presidential caucuses last month. Irwin said the arrest was a planned act of civil disobedience.
McDermott is serving his fourteenth term in Congress, but is retiring and not seeking re-election this fall.
Washington has 17 superdelegates. Many have expressed support for Clinton even though Sanders defeated Clinton 73%-27% in the Washington Democratic Caucus on March 26.
