RENTON, Wash. -- A fiery crash that critically injured one person and sent two others to the hospital on Saturday was the result of street racing, according to Renton Police.
King County Sheriff's Guardian One helicopter was monitoring the race, involving several cars along Oakesdale Avenue Southwest, just before 1 a.m.
The pilot had just notified officers of the race, when a Subaru Forester and a Mazda 3 crashed into each other. One car erupted into flames.
The incident was captured on the helicopter's camera.
Investigators said the two cars had just finished the race when one of the them crossed in front of the other.
Officers arriving on scene pulled at least one person from the burning wreckage.
One person was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with critical injuries, according to Renton Fire.
Two others were transported to Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
What caused the vehicle to ignite has not been determined.
The names, ages and genders of those injured have not been released and detectives have not indicated if charges will be filed.
