Scammers in Puyallup using Dallas police shooting to con people out of money

PUYALLUP – Puyallup police say scammers in the area are preying on people’s sympathies in the wake of the shooting deaths of five police officers in Dallas last week.

PPD said they’ve learned somebody is calling Puyallup residents claiming to be from the department and soliciting money for a fallen-officer fund.

Police say they’ve set up a no such fund, and issued a reminder to not give out personal or financial information over the phone.

Police said it’s not uncommon for scammers to take advantage of tragedies to try to defraud people out of money.
