Seahawks lose three starters to free agency
SEATTLE – If you were wondering what the Seattle Seahawks’ first order of business would be once free agency began, it looks like you have your answer: defensive line.
Various reports said the Seahawks were visiting with a familiar face in Chris Clemons on Wednesday, as well as talking to Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Cedric Thornton and entering into negotiations with their own defensive tackle in Brandon Mebane.
All this comes after they agreed to terms on a new contract with tackle Ahtyba Rubin on Tuesday.
Clemons came to the Seahawks via trade in 2010, and led the team with 11 sacks in both 2010 and 2011.
He bore an ACL in the playoffs in 2013, then went on to play on the Seahawks Super Bowl winning team the next season before being released in March 2014.
He was released by Jacksonville last week.
Thornton has spent five season with the Eagles, though he spent most of the first year on the practice squad. He has 233 career tackles and four career sacks.
Mebane, who will be an unrestricted free agent, has played 125 games for Seattle since being drafted in the third round of the 2007 draft. He had 24 tackles and 1.5 sacks last season.
