SEATTLE — Police are searching for a vehicle seen speeding away from a shooting in Beacon Hill that left a 17-year-old high school student dead.
Witnesses reported that the teen, later identified as Robert Robinson, had been shot around 4:00 p.m. Sunday near 15th Avenue S. and S. Forest Street.
According to Seattle police, the victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition but later died.
A spokeswoman for Seattle Public Schools confirmed Robinson was a student at Cleveland High school.
Police said homicide and gang unit detectives are investigating the case. They are searching for a blue Honda seen speeding away from the area shortly after the shooting. No further description of the car was given.
School officials said grief councilors would be on campus Monday. The school released a letter following the news of the shooting. The letter, in part, read:
"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I share the tragic news that one of our students, was killed yesterday afternoon in a shooting," the letter read. "As a community, I know we will come together to not only support our students' family members, but work to ensure our larger community is a safe place for us to live, learn and work."
