SEATTLE (AP) — Police in Seattle say they have confidence in their plan to deal with May Day events this Friday.
The Seattle Times reports that Capt. Chris Fowler told reporters Monday the department has been monitoring police response to protests and unrest both nationally and locally to see if its planned approach is still applicable. He says he thinks it is.
Fowler commands the downtown West Precinct.
He says police are aware of three planned May Day events. He didn't offer specifics on police staffing but said no officers will be allowed to take the day off unless a request was submitted early in the year.
A Black Lives Matter event is planned Friday morning. The annual May Day March for Workers and Immigrant Rights is scheduled Friday afternoon and will end with a rally at the federal courthouse.
A non-permitted protest that's billed as an anti-capitalist march has been advertised on anarchists' websites for Friday evening.
