Seattle women's march draws 175,000 attendees, organizers say

SEATTLE -- The Seattle outpost of the Women's March on Washington drew about 175,000 people, greatly exceeding organizers expectations.

Organizers for the Womxn's March on Seattle said the preliminary attendance total is a very “conservative estimate” for the march between Judkins Park and Seattle Center Saturday. They expect that number to grow.

Here are the methods they used to reach the preliminary count:

The crowd greatly exceeded organizers expectations. They initially estimated 30,000 people would attend the march that mirrored the Women's March on Washington.

Q13 News caught up with Governor Jay Inslee in the crowd at Seattle Center. He told us, "this is the biggest crowd I've seen since the Super Bowl celebration."

Seattle police say at one point marchers stretched from the origin (Judkins Park) to the destination (Seattle Center) nearly 3.5 miles away.

Organizers hope to release a more definitive number on Sunday.

The women and men were marching for women's rights and for the equal rights of other marginalized groups.
