Sheriff's deputy fatally shoots man in his 60s in Monroe; handgun recovered

MONROE - A Snohomish County Sheriff's deputy fatally shot and killed a man near Monroe early Tuesday morning, the sheriff's office reported.

A multi-agency police team is investigating the officer-involved shooting in the 17500 block of Tester Road, a police spokesman said.

The deputy was responding to a 'suspicious' circumstances call around midnight, Everett Police officer Aaron Snell told Q13Fox News. Shortly after arriving on scene, the deputy contacted a man and then moments later, the deputy reported 'shots fired'.

The man, in his 60s, was killed in the shooting. The sheriff's deputy was not injured. Investigators recovered a handgun from the scene.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office has not yet released the name of the man shot by police.

The 31-year-old deputy started with Snohomish County Sheriff's Office in 2007 and has been placed on administrative leave, police said.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating the shooting, including a group of detectives who investigate police use-of-force incidents in the county.
