Stolen $20,000 wedding ring returned to happy owner: 'Didn't expect this to come back to me'

BELLEVUE -- A $20,000 wedding ring is now back on the hand of a woman who thought she would never see it again.

Bellevue police recovered the stolen diamond ring and returned it to Sroy Lee McCarthy and her husband Tuesday night.

"I didn't expect this to come back to me," said McCarthy. "The ring represents our love and faith for each other and so that's what made it special."

Just a few weeks ago, someone snatched her purse from a department store. Her ring was inside. Security cameras captured a woman stealing the purse, but police said before she left the store the woman made a purchase with her own credit card.

"We believe the suspect in this case is a Chinese national that is simply visiting the area and we would like to get her identified before she leaves the country," said Bellevue police officer Seth Tyler.

After the story aired on Q13 Fox News and Washington’s Most Wanted, Bellevue police said the suspect’s daughter recognized her mother and made her turn herself in.  She was booked on a theft charge and released.

Sroy and her husband are relieved the ring was returned.

The couple will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary later this week.
