EVERETT -- Crime Stoppers tips helped Snohomish County detectives identify the suspect seen on surveillance video using a credit card stolen during a home burglary. Snohomish County prosecutors say the case has been referred to the Everett Prosecutor for a charging decision.
EVERETT -- While we are hiding Karrie’s face because she’s afraid for her life, she didn’t want a thief from to silence her voice. “For the first time in my life I thought about getting a gun. I've never even shot a gun. It's changed my life,” says Karrie. She says someone broke into her everett home while she slept. “To know I was upstairs and he was down here going through my house, it’s very scary,” says Karrie. She realized something was very wrong as she got ready for work Monday morning. “I went to grab my purse and it wasn't on my chair. Then I looked over at my sliding glass door and it was a little bit cracked. I saw my purse dumped out on the back deck,” says Karrie. Snohomish County Sheriff’s Deputies tell us surveillance cameras captured a man trying to use Karrie's stolen credit card at a Walmart in Lynnwood. “Minimal stuff, but everlasting for me, he stole for the rest of my life my security,” says Karrie. Karrie says the suspect gained access from the backyard. She says he got in using the slider door. Like many of us, Karrie says she uses a jam in her door for extra security. In her case, she uses a broom handle. Security expert, Jerold McGlothlin, says that broom handle provides a false sense of security. He suggests anyone with sliding glass doors invest 15 to 30 dollars in a door jam that you can find at hardware stores. “It's kind of like an arm bar, but its right there at that middle eye level. You'll know it’s locked in,” says McGlothlin. While deputies search for the suspect, Karrie says she's now searching for some peace in her own home. “My sense of security is gone. If he realized what he did to the rest of my life, it’s horrible,” says Karrie.
