Traffic Alert: All lanes of northbound I-5 through Seattle to close at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday

SEATTLE -- The Washington State Department of Transportation said Monday that northbound Interstate 5 through downtown Seattle will be fully closed overnight Tuesday for joint expansion work.

WSDOT bridge maintenance crews will close I-5 to repair an expansion joint that disrupted traffic last Friday morning. Since then, an emergency fix has been in place.

“We scheduled this much-needed repair job when it would be least disruptive to drivers,” said Assistant Bridge Superintendent Rick Rodda. “In order to get all lanes open as soon as possible last month, our crews installed a temporary quick fix that we will now be replacing with a more permanent fix.”

WSDOT said Puget Sound area drivers can get real-time traffic information on their phone with the WSDOT traffic app, by tracking the WSDOT traffic Twitter feed, and get advanced information from the Seattle Area Construction page.
