Vigils held for two Bremerton murder victims
BREMERTON, Wash. -- The victims of the mobile home park shooting near Bremerton were remembered Tuesday night at two vigils in Kitsap County.
Friends and family members shared lot of hugs as they gathered at Island Lake Park in Poulsbo. It’s one of the spots Jalisa Lum used to bring her 2-year-old son, Kaden.
“This is just a really tough time for the family right now,” said Shone Otwell, Kaden’s great uncle. “It’s really indescribable the type of pain that Jalisa is feeling.”
Sheriff’s deputies have still not identified a suspect yet in Saturday’s shooting. But Monday night, they searched a home and impounded a vehicle in Port Orchard. They would not say what evidence they found, but they say it is a positive step.
“Anything we can do is going to move us a little bit closer to a suspect,” said Kitsap County sheriff's Sgt. Kenneth Dickinson. “We’re making progress.”
On Tuesday night, Kaden’s family wanted to remember the little boy with the big smile. They didn’t want to think about the investigation.
“The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, I know they're working extremely hard on this case to get the shooter in custody,” said Otwell. “This is just a travesty and tragedy for many, there's more than one victim here.”
Heather Kelso, 29, who had been a roommate of Kaden's mom, also died in the shooting. Her friends are still in shock that they’ll never get to talk to her again.
“You don't realize they can be taken from you so quick like that,” said Jessica Fuertes.
She knows the gunman is still on the loose, but says she doesn’t want to focus on that.
“I try not to think about it. You just enjoy the memories you had together, it's all you can do.”
