WASHOUGAL, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say two witnesses rescued and revived a teenager after he launched off a rope swing into the Washougal River and failed to resurface.
KATU reports that the 19-year-old man from Washougal suffered a head injury when he landed in the river Monday afternoon. East County Fire and Rescue Capt. Mike Carnes said the witnesses dove in and pulled him out, then performed CPR.
Carnes described the victim as conscious and breathing but not alert. Rescue crews loaded him onto a backboard and then used a rope system to pull him up the river bank. They brought him to a hospital in Vancouver, where his condition was not known.
Carnes credited the witnesses with saving the man's life.
