'No hope for survivors:' 2 dead, 9 others presumed dead in Longview, WA chemical tank implosion
Authorities say a second person has died from injuries suffered when a chemical tank ruptured at a Washington state paper mill, raising the presumed death toll to 11. Authorities said Tuesday that one person had already been confirmed killed in the blast. Crews were expected to resume searching Wednesday for the nine people who are still missing and presumed killed in Tuesday’s tank failure at Nippon Dynawave Packaging Co. in Longview, a Columbia River city of about 40,000 people. The tank rupture released a corrosive chemical mixture called “white liquor,” which is used in the paper-making process. Authorities say the tank failure doesn't pose a threat to the community.
