Sheriff: Female escapes kidnapping attempt when suspect's car gets stuck in mud

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Authorities are seeking information about a kidnapping and assault reported earlier this week in Whatcom County.

The sheriff's office wants to hear from anyone who may have seen, spoken with, or assisted a driver who was stuck in a ditch along the 3800 block of Sorenson Road near Everson. This happened at some point between the end of the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 1st and 5:30 Monday morning, February 2nd.

Investigators say the driver is suspected of abducting a female in Bellingham and  driving her to Everson where the passenger side wheels of his vehicle became stuck in the mud.

Sheriff Bill Elfo said the victim was able to escape into a field and run to a nearby house where the homeowner called 9-1-1.

The suspect is described as a male in his 40s. Officials said they do not have a description of the vehicle.
