SEATTLE -- A 7-year-old girl was safely rescued Sunday after she was missing in North Cascades National Park for nearly a day, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office.

They say Gwynn Dilstrom went missing from a campground near Newhalem around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, and search and rescue teams, along with volunteers, were out all day looking for the girl.

Just before 5 p.m., the sheriff's office says Gwynn was located by Search and Rescue Deputies Jilk and Stafford.

The park said over 120 volunteers searched for her along with several K9 units, a helicopter and other resources like a drone.

Newhalem is a heavily wooded area that runs along the Skagit River, and the park says it's a popular campsite during the holidays.
