9 firefighters injured after explosion in Seattle`s Greenwood neighborhood
Q13 News This Morning
SEATTLE, Wash.-- A massive explosion leveled a building at N. 85th St. and Greenwood Ave. N. early Wednesday morning. The origin of the explosion is still under investigation, but Neptune Coffee is completely destroyed. Witnesses say Mr. Gyros and the Quick Mart nearby also suffered extensive damage, along with parked cars nearby.
Nine firefighters were transported to Harborview for minor injuries, including one Battalion Chief. A Harborview representative says they are all in satisfactory condition, being treated for cuts, burns and abrasions.
Evacuations in the neighborhood are underway.
Fire officials tell us crews were checking out a gas leak in the area at around 1:40 a.m. when the explosion happened about 40 minutes later. A Q13 News photographer was on scene when the explosion happened. He described the aftermath of the explosion as a war zone and said glass was raining down. Fortunately, our photographer is OK.
This story is developing and will be updated throughout the morning as we learn more.
