Edmonds man looks to break record for tallest toy tower
EDMONDS -- It's a tall feat.
An Edmonds man hoped to claim the world record for tallest structure built solely from Lincoln Logs earlier this week, the Everett Herald reported. Paul Nickle is waiting to hear back from the Guinness Book of World Records to see if the 12-foot, 5-inch tower he built at the Evergreen State Fair breaks the previous record of 12-foot, 4-inches held by a group in Lincoln Nebraska.
Nickle told the Herald he decided to go for the record after his Lincoln Log structure won a first-place ribbon for height at the county fair.
The structure no longer stands, after an errant tape measure got too close and caused the tower to collapse. The tower was witnessed, measured and photographed before it fell; with Nickle hoping that's enough to put him and his family in the record books.
In fact, maybe the fall itself should hold a spot.
"The sound of the logs falling drew a bigger crowd than the attempt itself," Nickle said.
It could take months for the Guinness Book of World Records to verify the tower's height.
Nickle told the Herald he has collected the toy logs for a decade. He said the collection first started when his grandmother gave him the toys as a kid.
