The death toll is climbing as Hurricane Melissa devastated the Caribbean, making destructive landfalls in both Jamaica and Cuba over the past few days.

Citing reports, FOX Weather reported that the mayor of Petit-Grove in southern Haiti said about 25 people were killed after a flooded river overflowed its banks and sent water rushing into communities. Three other deaths were also confirmed by local officials.
In Jamaica, three people were killed while preparing for Hurricane Melissa’s impacts last week. But, the Minister of Local Government and Community Development explained that at least four people were confirmed dead in St. Elizabeth Parish due to the direct impacts of Hurricane Melissa.

According to FOX Weather, the Jamaican Constabulary Force reported an additional 8 total deaths from Westmoreland, St. James and Hanover.
And at least one death was also reported in the Dominican Republic as Hurricane Melissa moved close to Hispaniola last weekend.
Melissa made landfall in Jamaica on Oct. 28 as a catastrophic Category 5 storm, and it came ashore again in Cuba early Wednesday as a Category 3 storm, and also caused damage in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
