Lynnwood man sentenced to more than 10 years for fatal DUI hit-and-run in Redmond

SEATTLE -- A 22-year-old Lynnwood man was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison Friday for a DUI hit-and-run crash in Redmond last year that left a 30-year-old man dead.

The defendant, Robert James Malsch, was under the influence of alcohol and driving at a high rate of speed when his vehicle slammed into a car that was stopped at a red light on Feb. 28, 2015. Michael Frederick Ey was killed in the crash.

Malsch jumped out of his car and fled from the scene, but was apprehended a short time later.

Malsch pleaded guilty last month to Vehicular Homicide - DUI, Felony Hit and Run, and Reckless Driving.

Prosecutors recommended a sentence of 125 months -- or 10.4 years -- and that's what the judge handed down.
