Fundraiser Volunteers Walk Outside Space Needle
SEATTLE -- Fourteen 'lucky' people walked outside on the Space Needle's outer halo Thursday to raise money for a good cause -- the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
"Base 2 Space" is a cancer fundraiser where people race up the Space Needle's 98 flights of stairs -- a total of 832 steps -- to get to the top. On Thursday, organizers let last year's fastest climbers and biggest donation-earners explore the outer edge of the needle.
The needle's outer ring is about 520 feet above ground, so climbers had to be securely harnessed.
The 'Base 2 Space' climb will be held this year on Oct. 2.
