School canceled at Kent Ridge after smoke fills several classrooms

Q13 News This Morning

KENT, Wash. -- Authorities say a problem with an electrical panel forced the evacuation of Kentridge High School early Monday.

Administrators sent students home for the day after smoke filled several classrooms around 8 a.m.

According to Kent fire officials, an automatic alarm went off after a problem with an electrical panel sent smoke into several classrooms. Students and staff evacuated the building.

Puget Sound Energy shut off power to the entire school as a precaution.

Administrators decided to cancel school for the day. Buses were taking students home or parents could pick up their children at Meeker Middle School.
