Seattle police officer shoots suspect

The suspect is in critical condition

A Seattle police officer with the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force shot a suspect in a Safeway parking lot in Des Moines, according to the Des Moines Police Department.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were called to the Safeway in the 27000 block of Pacific Highway South as part of an investigation around 3:09 p.m. on Oct. 27.

According to Des Moines police, the US Marshal Fugitive Task Force located a suspect, who was wanted for first-degree kidnapping, in that parking lot.

When officers tried to contact the man, he drew a gun.

The suspect apparently fired rounds at law enforcement, according to a FOX 13 News photographer at the scene.

Seattle police confirmed one of their officers was the one to fire the shot.

No officers were injured and there are no other suspects wanted at this time.

The suspect was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

The Seattle police officer will be placed on paid administrative leave.

The investigation remains ongoing.
