Bomb scare at Spokane Democratic headquarters

A man walked into the building and told two staffers he was ready to blow up the office.

Police in Spokane say a man who threatened to blow up the office of the Spokane County Democrats did not carry an explosive device into the building.

The man, who has not yet been identified, went to the office on Wednesday morning carrying a backpack and threatened to blow it up.

Nicole Bishop, chair of the local Democrats, wasn’t at the office, but a volunteer told her the man came in and said he had a manifesto and a bomb.

Bishop told The Spokesman-Review the volunteer could see wires coming from the man’s bag.

When the man left the building on his own, Spokane police detained him. The SPD bomb squad did not find an explosive device in the building.
