SR 99 ramp from West Seattle Bridge reopens
An on-ramp to the West Seattle Bridge reopened after crews fixed a huge hole and exposed rebar that was spotted by drivers.
SEATTLE - A State Route 99 ramp from the West Seattle Bridge reopened after crews fixed a huge hole and exposed rebar.
Transportation officials said warmer temperatures over the weekend helped crews repair the hole. The ramp reopened at about 2 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), the northbound State Route 99 on-ramp from the West Seattle Bridge was shut down in the morning on May 3 because of the huge hole. You could see through the bridge deck to the ground below.
"We recognize this will have travel impacts for the West Seattle community, especially for daily commutes and weekend events. People should use alternative routes, such as I-5, and plan ahead," WSDOT tweeted last week.
Crews said last week that they first tried an epoxy fill in the hole but quickly discovered that the repair was going to be more difficult.
The on-ramp will reopen by 5 a.m. on May 9.
