Woman found dead in her bunk in Pierce County Jail

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — An inmate at the Pierce County Jail was found dead in her bunk a day after she was booked into the jail.

The News Tribune reports that authorities say 47-year-old Winona Taraya, of Ocean Park, was found dead about 8:30 a.m.

The cause and manner of her death have not yet been determined.

Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer says there were no obvious signs of foul play.

Troyer says Taraya was booked into the jail Sunday by Puyallup Tribal Police on warrants for third-degree driving with a suspended license and third-degree theft after she was charged in Pierce County District Court.
