Stranded NASA astronauts smile, wave after emerging from SpaceX capsule
Astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore smiled and waved to the camera as they exited the SpaceX Dragon Capsule after splashing down in the waters off Florida’s Gulf Coast on Tuesday, March 18. The pair spent 286 days onboard the International Space Station after Boeing’s capsule malfunctioned, hindering their originally scheduled eight-day mission. The SpaceX Dragon capsule, containing Williams and Wilmore, along with their colleagues Aleksandr Gorbunov and Nick Hague, undocked from the International Space Station early on Tuesday morning. This video shows the side hatch door being opened to release the crew members after splashdown, before Williams and Wilmore are cheerfully wheeled away.
