The Spotlight: The Fentanyl Motherlode
King County Sheriff's Detectives are asking for the public's help to find a fugitive accused of trafficking almost 60 pounds of powder fentanyl. It's enough to kill more than 13.5 million people and at the time, was the largest drug bust in county history. Meanwhile, one of his co-conspirators pleaded guilty but was sentenced to only 20 months in prison because of limits set by the Washington state legislature. Prosecutors argued for a much longer, saying cases like this with an exceptional amount of the deadly drug deserve exceptional sentences but state lawmakers have refused to address the issue even as more than 360 people have already died of a fentanyl overdose in King County this year.
