Seattle to invest record $110 million in affordable housing
Mayor Jenny Durkan says the city this year will invest a record amount $110 million in affordable housing. The Seattle Times reports that funding will go toward the construction and redevelopment of 1,944 new units. Durkan made the announcement Monday afternoon, stressing the urgent need for affordable housing. Durkan said these units will include investments in LGBTQ housing, as well as a housing project for the Ethiopian community called The Ethiopian Village. In all, there will be 11 new apartment buildings spread throughout the city. Of the $110 million, $11.1 million will be spent on building more than 190 housing units specifically for people experiencing homelessness.
