The Spotlight: WA State Legislative Session 2026
In the first week of the Washington State Legislature's 2026 regular session , the granddaughter of an 80-year-old woman carjacked and murdered in Seattle is fighting back against a bill proposed by Senator Bob Hasegawa (D), Senator Claire Wilson (D) and Senator T'wina Nobles (D) to change Washington State's three-strikes law. If passed, critics say Senate Bill 5945 would put criminals' rights over victims' rights. Plus, another proposed bill would make it easier for the state to remove kids from homes of parents addicted to deadly drugs like Fentanyl. Representative Travis Couture (R) says House Bill 1092 is meant to fix the unintended consequences of Washington's Keeping Families Together Act. And, a fentanyl exposure almost killed 6 puppies who could be up for adoption soon. See the efforts of firefighters to save them.
