2 million diapers for children in need

SEATTLE -- Two million diapers will be given to low-income families in the Pacific Northwest over the next two years through the Side by Side Northwest program.

Diaper need is a critical issue for the 10,000 children under 3-years-old living in poverty in King County and 1-in-3 American moms report struggling to provide an adequate supply of diapers for their children, representatives with Side by Side said. Food stamps and other government programs do not cover diapers and they average cost per month is $100 to diaper a child.

Addressing diaper need requires the collective response of big gifts and help from programs like the Side by Side Northwest, representatives said.
