80-year-old driver dies after ice chest accident on I-90
NORTH BEND -- An ice chest that apparently fell off a vehicle on Interstate 90 Friday set off a chain of events that resulted in the death of an 80-year-old man from North Bend, the Washington State Patrol said.
Trooper Chris Webb said one car swerved to avoid the ice chest, but sideswiped another vehicle and both vehicles went into the median before coming to rest Friday. One of the drivers, an 80-year-old man from North Bend, showed no visible signs of injury, but required CPR at the scene and then was rushed to Swedish Medical Center in Issaquah, where he died.
The driver of the vehicle that sideswiped the victim's car submitted to a voluntary blood draw, but DUI was not suspected, Webb said.
No details were given about the vehicle that lost the ice chest.
