20140119_105534SKAGIT COUNTY -- An old abandoned feed building caught fire Sunday morning in Mount Vernon, and fire fighters worked hard to squash the flames.

The former Alf Christenson Seed company caught on fire sometime around 10 a.m. Sunday. The building, located near the corner of W. Kincaid Street and South 4th Street in Mount Vernon, was fully engulfed in flames by 11 a.m., and flames were visible from Interstate 5  in Skagit County. About 50 fire fighters were on the scene attempting to put the fire out.

The building is projected site of the future Skagit County Jail, Steve Riggs of the Mt. Vernon Fire Department said.

It is unknown how the fire started, Riggs said.
