Deputy, suspect shot in confrontation in Shoreline, authorities investigating
SHORELINE, Wash. - State authorities are investigating after a deputy and suspect shot each other in Shoreline early Sunday morning.
The King County Prosecutor's Office on Monday announced charges against Ezequiel Medina-Parra including first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, obstruction and unlawful discharge of a dangerous weapon.
King County's Independent Force Investigation Team (IFIT-KC) confirmed Monday the deputy involved in the shooting is Clayton Stultz, who has been with the sheriff's office since June 2021. Authorities say Stultz was released from the hospital on Sunday.
According to IFIT-KC, Stultz was investigating a ‘suspicious car’ at a Chevron near NE 145th St and 15th Ave NE around 2 a.m. Court docs revealed Medina-Parra had a warrant for a suspended license, and when Stultz confronted him, he said he was "gonna go."
Stultz reportedly told him he could not leave, then Medina-Parra started to walk away, then run, and when the deputy followed him, suddenly pulled out a gun and shot at him around 12 times.
Stultz fired back, and both men were injured. Court docs report Medina-Parra ran from the scene, discarding his gun and some clothes, before K9 units tracked him down to a shed nearby.
Both men were treated and taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Prosecutors have argued to hold Medina-Parra without bail, or at least $5 million.
