Despite wildfires, many homes have been saved
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Despite the threat to homes from wildfires raging across Southern California and much of the West, New Mexico is the only place where people actually lost their residences. About two dozen homes were destroyed in the state last week. There are still hundreds of evacuees and warnings have been issued to other communities. Near Santa Barbara, California, most fire evacuees are expected to be allowed home today.
