Hipster heat map debuts, letting you avoid -- or join -- area hipsters
SEATTLE -- What would we do without Yelp -- the user-driven online cornucopia of reviews where, at your own risk, you can take the advice of strangers on the quality of everything from the area's best pizza and dog groomer to plastic surgeons (we're not kidding).
Now, as a favor to all of us, Yelp has rolled out its "hipster heat map," letting users know where to go -- or avoid -- depending on their tolerance for the (purported) uber-cool of the Emerald City.
As you can see from the map, Capitol Hill and Ballard rank as the hottest spots for hipsterhood, and you can spot a little pink-ish shade of hipsterdom near Fremont, Belltown, the University of Washington and other neighborhoods.
The heat map also tracks hipster density in other metropolitan areas, so if you're traveling and looking for hipsters -- or want to avoid them -- you might want to take a peek at Yelp's new maps.
