BURLINGTON  - Bridge maintenance crews will be closing lanes of the Interstate 5 Skagit River bridge Saturday night, to inspect "L" joints at either end of the temporary span, the Washington State Department of Transportation reported.  WSDOT crews will close up to one lane at a time while they inspect the "L" joints, said Kris Olsen with WSDOT Communications.  Earlier on Saturday, a part of the "L" joint that helps hold the asphalt in place between the temporary span and the permanent roadway came loose.  The right lane of southbound I-5 was closed approximately from 9:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. while crews welded the joint back into place and spread new asphalt.

Bridge crews will do the inspections and close the lanes between 8 p.m. Saturday July 27 to 5 a.m. Sunday July 28.  Crews will inspect the remaining "L" joints to make sure they remain securely in place.  The lane closes may cause slight delays Saturday night, Olsen said.
