Court documents on the Parkland assault
What we know:
According to the documents, the victim noticed a stranger walking toward her house. She raced to her door to try and lock it, but he got through first, and shoved her into a table.
"Here's a situation of one of our residents, and she didn’t feel safe in her own home, and for this to happen to her is everybody’s worst nightmare," said Deputy Carly Cappetto of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
Investigators said the victim tore a ligament in her knee and broke her ankle.
The document said a friend of the victim was able to get the attacker out of the house.
Deputies said they found Jones a few blocks away, and he matched the description of the suspect.
Jones spoke to deputies during the arrest and said he had nothing to do with the attack. Deputies reported Jones was covered in blood and that Jones gave deputies vague responses to their questions.
What's next:
On Monday, a judge charged Jones with assault in the second degree and residential burglary and set his bail at $25,000.
However, Pierce County records show Jones is already out of jail.
"We’re proud of our deputies for being able to take him into custody so quickly, but it’s also frustrating to make these arrests, put them in jail, and to find out they’re back on the streets within a couple of days," Cappetto said.
