Docs: Woman lured 3-year-old with ice cream before kidnapping her from Seattle front yard

A 40-year-old woman was taken into custody after she allegedly lured a 3-year-old from the front yard of a Rainier Valley home, investigators said.

A 40-year-old woman was taken into custody after she allegedly lured a 3-year-old from the front yard of a Rainier Valley home, investigators said.

After 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Seattle police responded to a report of a child abducted near the intersection of South Rose Street and Rainier Avenue South.

When officers arrived, the family told police the child was playing in the front yard when a woman approached and lured the child into her car with the promise of ice cream.

Investigators said witnesses were able to identify the suspect and officers found an address for the 40-year-old woman.

When officers knocked on her Renton door, another person answered. They advised officers that the woman has mental health issues and that they would help officers in tracking her down, court documents said.

The woman called the person in her home to ask for help "to rescue a child that she had."

Court documents later said that the woman was "experiencing delusions of saving the child" during the incident and that officers objected to her release.

About an hour later, the woman came to her home with the child in her arms, according to court documents.

The child was not hurt and returned to the family.

The woman was booked into King County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping.

Friday, she appeared in court. During the hearing, the judge ruled the suspect cannot have contact with any children unless supervised.

The suspect is held on a $350,000 bond.

She is expected to appear in court again next week.
