'Poorly drawn pets' fundraiser returns
The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County's popular "Poorly Drawn Pets" fundraiser is back.
TACOMA, Wash. - The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County's annual popular fundraiser is back.
By the numbers:
The shelter's "Poorly Drawn Pets" fundraiser is in its 6th year and started on Tuesday, Jan. 21. During last year's event, more than 750 portraits were drawn by volunteers and over $23,000 was raised.
For a donation of $25, artistic volunteers will draw a unique rendering of your pet from a photo that you submit.

"Our artists don’t promise perfection, but they guarantee one-of-a-kind portraits that spark joy and become cherished keepsakes for years to come," said Beth Brooks, director of development for the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County. "Our volunteers and community look forward to this event every year. It’s a fun way to celebrate or memorialize pets while making a meaningful impact for the animals in our organization’s care."
What you can do:
What's different this year is that organizers moved submissions to their website, in an effort to increase accessibility and participation, broadening the project’s reach beyond social media.
Anyone who wants to participate has until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 to submit their donation and a photo of their pet.
"This shift allows us to engage a broader audience by making it easier for anyone and everyone to participate and support pets in need," Brooks said.
Portraits will be emailed after they're completed.
