Seattle City Council approves parking rate increase

During events of 10,000 people or more, parking rates could be as high as $12 an hour.

The Seattle City Council unanimously passed a proposal on Monday to raise street-parking costs near Climate Pledge Arena during events.

Parking rates could be as high as $12 an hour during events of 10,000 people or more, according to the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT).

The increased rates have been implemented to decrease congestion and encourage the use of public transportation. New parking rates will go into effect in October.

The city's Department of Transportation worked with the Uptown Alliance in Queen Anne to discuss parking rates and provided surveys for residents to fill out prior to the proposal's passing.
